Climate resiliency is the key to building the crop supply chain of the future. However, our food supply chain is critically vulnerable to shocks. Many top crop-producing countries are among the most vulnerable to climate change. By some estimates, in the absence of effective adaptation, global yields could decline by up to 30 percent by 2050. As the world is currently lagging substantially behind the 1.5 degrees target of the Paris Agreement, it is quite clear that major steps are needed to be taken to ensure food supply chain sustainability not only at the farm level but also pre- and post-farm gate. In the food supply chain, companies such as ETI, Tat Gida, Kayseri Seker, Kerevitas, and Cargill manage extensive agricultural production operations using a contract farming model. These companies face sectoral risks associated with managing production operations across thousands of fields. To mitigate these risks, they support hundreds of farmers with inputs such as seeds and fertilizers, while also operating their own agricultural field teams to manage field operations. We have identified that post-farm-gate organizations are in need of improved field data collection and field operations management for: - Increased farmer yields and profitability - Mitigating water stress, drought and yield risks - Reduced crop supply costs - Improved crop supply sustainability, including measurement and regulatory compliance - Improved cross-department reporting, ERP and FMIS integrations
