According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO, 2022) the global temperatures are rising due to increased humidity as a result of climate change. As a result, extreme weather events are more frequent and impactful compared to the past. Further, for the World Economic Forum (2018), extreme weather, climate action failure and biodiversity loss are among top 5 global risks in terms of likelihood for the next 10 years. Each year, Earth is experiencing devastating events caused by climate change, taking thousands of lives and resulting in massive damage to communities, governments, and markets each year. The extreme weather related losses for only EU countries is between 450-520 billion EUR (2020) and the case is 2.295 trillion USD for the U.S. (NOAA, 2022). Not just the people and our business, catastrophic events and climate change also possess a great threat to Earth, by endangering millions of species, causing an unbalance in ecosystems and each year it gets worse. Here are some statistics about different markets: Extreme weather events’ cost for insurance companies was 145 billion USD in 2021. 85% of the crop losses are due to adverse weather conditions. Weather accounts for 23% of the delays in the logistics and E/Q-Commerce operations and costs about 3.5 billion USD. Each year, renewable energy companies located in the EMEA region pay about 2 billion EUR fines due to inaccurate power generation forecasts. 70% of the delays in flights are caused by weather, costing 4500 $/hour to the airline companies. Besides the extreme case, weather, in its all forms, affects us. However, the vast majority of the companies lagged behind in terms of integrating weather information into their operations and increasing their overall performance. As a result, they could not act accordingly for the risks and opportunities that weather offers. Even if we cannot control the weather, we could prepare ourselves for what is coming, with weather intelligence. Along with reducing certain risks with state of the art alert mechanism, we allow our stakeholders to access operational level weather information for the past, present and future periods to improve operational efficiency.
We produce our own weather forecasts and improve them since 2016. Being pioneers in the Turkey, having a private weather forecasting engine along with numerical weather prediction models runned by expert meteorological engineers, strong engineering background and business acumen allows us to operate in many sectors such as renewables, insurance, aviation, construction, agriculture, e/q-commerce, entertainment, sports, logistics, and mobility. To cover the massive potential of weather intelligence across all industries, we have developed different products/services ranging from plug and play DaaS API to customizable SaaS dashboards.
