Communication systems, by their nature, have a complex structure that contains multiple technologies. With the “Communication Educational Kit” project, we aim to teach wireless communication with experiments in the real environment, to make theoretical knowledge long-lasting through necessary applications, to engage users in practical communications systems and to increase the user’s software development ability as well. The educational kit presents a low-cost integrated and interactive environment that eliminates the tedious installation stages and focuses the user's attention on the subject. Laboratory-module-based approach facilitates students learning by hands-on exploration of over-the-air signals with low-cost Radio Frequency (RF) sensor hardware.

Problem

1. There are difficulties in teaching the basic concepts used in the field of communication. 2. The complexity and abstractness of the education programs prepared to teach communication systems alienate the student from the course. 3. Currently, educational tools consist of licensed and expensive products. 4. Education models that are solely supported by simulation tools are insufficient. 5. It takes time to prepare the laboratory infrastructure and set up the tools.

Çözüm

1. Thanks to our project, basic concepts will be taught easily and inexpensively with the support of visual tools. 2. A ready-made environment will be provided where the user can learn by experience and by going beyond the theoretical model. 3. Since the project will be based entirely upon open system products and open source software, dependency on any commercial product will be avoided and a cost-effective solution will be provided. 4. With the infrastructure provided within the scope of the project, it will be possible to work in a simulation environment while observing live communication signals and testing the proposed solutions with real signals. 5. The integrated environment is offered pre-installed to meet all software requirements.
