Problem

Making new friends as an adult is harder than ever—and it’s a growing social issue. Over 50% of adults report feeling lonely on a regular basis (Cigna). Urban living, remote work, and digital fatigue have left people socially disconnected, even in crowded cities. Despite all the platforms we have, there’s still no natural way to meet new people just to hang out, have fun, and share interests. Social media is passive. Dating apps come with pressure. Event platforms feel formal or depend on group admins to organize everything. Especially for Gen Z and Millennials—who crave real-world experiences but often feel disconnected—the gap is wide and growing. Post-pandemic life has only amplified that need: people want to reconnect, but don’t know how or where to start. And for women, it’s often not just difficult—it’s uncomfortable or unsafe. The need is universal, but the tools are not. hi.buddy exists to fill that gap—helping people connect through shared activities in a way that’s simple, safe, and built around activities which they already enjoy.

hi.buddy is a mobile app that helps people meet new friends through shared activities—not swipes, likes, or awkward DMs. Instead of searching for people directly, users browse real-life activities like walks, game nights, concerts, or book clubs—created by the community or hosted by others. They can join, participate, or even start their own. This activity-first model removes the pressure and makes it easier to connect naturally. People meet in context—by showing up to something they genuinely enjoy, not through algorithms or profiles. hi.buddy also allows people to form or join micro-communities around specific interests (like "morning runners" or "film club lovers"). These groups grow organically and keep users engaged long after their first event. Safety and comfort are built into the experience—from profile controls to gender-inclusive onboarding. Our design choices especially prioritize women, who often feel underserved or unsafe in social apps. It’s a simple tool—but one that turns shared interests into lasting friendships.
