Problem
As the Retinow team, we set out to prevent blindness caused by diabetes. The fact that we observed diabetes in our families and close circles has spurred us on this project. We knew that this disease was long-term and required diligence. Later, while investigating the complications caused by diabetes, we learned that one of the biggest problems is losing an individual's eye. When we asked our family if they were aware of this risk, we received a 'No' answer, and our project idea was now shaped. In fact, the fact that many diabetics are unaware of this risk encouraged us to develop our Retinow device as soon as possible. We aimed to prevent diabetes patients from experiencing vision loss with our device, which is intended for early diagnosis and primary care services. We made an appointment with our ophthalmologist at Erciyes university hospital and started working on our project. Diabetic Retinopathy Disease (DR) is the main cause of vision loss in the working population. DR is a diabetic complication that disrupts the structure of the eye. It is caused by damage to the blood vessels in the light-sensitive tissue in the back of the eye. Another feature of DR is that it can cause new blood vessels to form on the retinal surface. The bleeding potential of these new vessels is very high. If DR is not diagnosed and treated, vision loss occurs.

The Retinow system we have developed will provide rapid scanning and triage without the need for a trained specialist to evaluate retinal images. Retinow is ahead of the products on the market with its many features. The first of these features is the decision support mechanism. Thanks to this feature, images will be interpreted in the cloud environment with artificial intelligence, resulting in faster, precise and accurate results. An important feature of the device is that it can diagnose independently from eye drops. While the use of drops in the current system requires the approval of a specialist ophthalmologist and prolongs the examination period, Retinow eliminates this problem.
