Problem
Fresh produce has a short shelf life, often spoiling before it reaches consumers due to bacterial and fungal contamination. This leads to significant waste across the supply chain, with nearly 25% of fruits and vegetables discarded due to spoilage. For retailers, distributors, and producers, this spoilage results in higher costs, lower profitability, and environmental impacts from wasted resources and emissions. Current methods, such as plastic and synthetic wax coatings, offer limited protection and don’t align with sustainability goals. There’s a pressing need for an effective, natural solution that can extend shelf life while reducing waste and minimizing environmental impact.
Solution
Shelf-life extension is essential in reducing waste and maximizing efficiency across the food supply chain. By keeping produce fresh for longer, we help prevent spoilage of fruits and vegetables that typically spoil before reaching consumers, lowering both financial losses and environmental impact. Biopols’ biodegradable coating solution actively extends shelf life, reducing bacterial and fungal contamination without plastic or synthetic barriers. This ensures that produce remains fresh through distribution and retail, supporting sustainable practices and providing consumers with higher-quality, longer-lasting fruits and vegetables. In doing so, shelf-life extension becomes a powerful tool for waste reduction, cost savings, and environmental sustainability throughout the food chain
