Nowadays, where renewable, environmentally friendly, domestic and local resources are gaining importance, the interest in biomass energies is increasing day by day. Utilization of waste containing organic matter by obtaining energy from biomass is important in terms of environmental pollution and clean energy production. Thermochemical disposal methods can be classified as pyrolysis, gasification and combustion reactions. Gasification can be defined as a set of reactions that allow the synthesis gas resulting from the decomposition of carbon-containing biomass raw materials at high temperatures to be used in gas engines, in electricity production or as heating energy thanks to heat recovery. The raw material source to be used in traditional gasification systems must be stored after being purified from high moisture content. The drying process applied for gasification plants means extra energy, time and storage costs, as well as financial liability for the facility.
It is possible to create synthesis gas from moist wastes with high calorific value through the plasma gasification process. Plasma gasification allows the raw material source to be used in two stages. The first one is transmitted to the plasma reactor and acts as a gasification element, and the second one is fed to the plasmatron, allowing it to serve as a plasma generator. Free electrons, active ions and radicals in the plasma formed at high temperatures ensure that chemical bonds are broken and included in the gasification process. In this way, there is no need for the moisture removal process performed in traditional gasification. Clean energy production with plasma gasification is gaining momentum day by day.
