One significant problem addressed by the startup Rebiocyclers is the extensive use of plastics, which currently consume around 10% of the world's natural petrochemical resources and are projected to further increase by 2050. Plastics pose a multifaceted threat to the climate crisis and biodiversity due to their high energy consumption during manufacturing, inadequate waste management solutions, and detrimental effects on human health. These factors not only endanger the lives of present and future generations but also contribute to the depletion of valuable resources. Another critical issue is the underutilization of agricultural waste. Turkey, as a country, possesses substantial biomass potential, with an annual generation of 30 to 40 million tons of agricultural waste. Regrettably, these valuable resources are not effectively transformed and instead often disposed of through burning, resulting in environmental and economic losses. Therefore, the lack of sustainable solutions for plastic waste management and the underutilization of agricultural waste present pressing challenges that Rebiocyclers aims to address with their innovative approaches and technologies.
In response to these challenges, Rebiocyclers has developed a pioneering solution to address the changing future. Our technology involves the combination of PLA (polylactic acid) with support material obtained from two distinct sources: agricultural bran waste and hemp fiber waste. Through this innovative approach, we have successfully produced granules under the brand name Beyondpla. Beyondpla stands out as an eco-friendly alternative that offers significant advantages over traditional plastics. By incorporating biodegradable materials, our granules complete their lifecycle in a circular manner, transforming into beneficial components when they interact with the soil. This approach aligns with the principles of the circular economy and contributes to reducing the environmental impact caused by plastic waste. Moving forward, our next objective is to transform our Beyondpla granules into 3D-compatible filaments, and we are currently engaged in ongoing research and development efforts to achieve this goal. Through these endeavors, Rebiocyclers aims to provide sustainable material solutions that promote a greener and more responsible future.
