As long as the boats and yachts stay in the water, algae, mussel and thyme begin to form on their hulls. This formation on the surface reduces the speed by 20% from the first months. By consuming excess fuel, it increases carbon emissions, decreases maneuverability and increases depreciation expenses. Two different methods are used in the industry to carry out these maintenance operations. Cleaning operations performed by divers damage the surface and increase long-term depreciation expenses. However, in cleaning processes, they damage the environment and disrupt the ecological balance. In 2017, the use of divers was prohibited in accordance with the European Union Harmonization Law. In the other method, boats and yachts are taken ashore and cleaned with water jet. In this method, besides the long waiting times, it creates serious costs.
With the robotic systems we have developed as a solution to these, boats and yachts can be cleaned in a quality and environmentally friendly manner without the need to land them.
